INVENTORY: Posted: May 17, 2021

I am sticking to online only for the rest of the month of May. I have a few projects which are needing much more attention. I tend to like these times in my life where I am immersed in current interests and exploring new ones. I was sharing with a friend the other day, it is like taking an inventory of “all the things”. I am building knowledge on my passions. Each new thing I learn, I get curious of applicability and what else I can do with this new information. Sometimes, I can hit the ground running. Most of the time, I need to sit and reflect of what I have in my “vault” and how I can meld and build something. It as if anything and everything is possible. Though it doesn’t look like much for now, I know there is boundless possibilities. What are you currently musing?

YOGA IN MY YARD is back! Well, slowly coming back.
I will be posting and sharing more of the the location on my Instagram.

This is a roaming style of yoga; presenting possibilities beyond a yoga mat. Yoga can be practiced anywhere and doesn’t need a fixed location. The practice “popping” up wherever gives an opportunity to reach various people to join the practice. Read moreHERE....

PACING: Posted: May 10, 2021

How are you doing this week?
Slowly, more in-person yoga offerings are becoming promising. I have enjoyed exploring the possibilities of cultivating events within safety guidelines; to protect others and ease anxiety. It hasn’t felt like a limitation; more as a re-navigation. It has led to unique offerings, which are growing and evolving. One in particular is calling for more attention. I am in a stage where I am minding the pacing of the growth. I am paying attention to what is working well, needs for re-direction, and potential other offerings. It has been interesting to experience. At times, I want to share all the things at once. I think the chaos would be a bit fun but mostly overwhelming. Actually, very overwhelming and life seems too overwhelming.

My work is feeling very much like the season of spring, planted seeds waiting to break through the soil and grow. But, now is not the time. I am still in the ground slowly and carefully working my way to the surface. There is movement and growth, in this stage, just paced slowly.
How is your pace of life? Are you enjoying the rate of growth? Does it and can you change it?

YOGA IN MY YARD is back! Well, slowly coming back.
I will be posting and sharing more of the the history on my Instagram.

This roaming style of yoga started by me in September of 2017. Let me share the story. I was teaching yoga in the area and someone suggested I teach BREWGA, yoga at a brewery with their libations. Supposedly this was going on in neighboring Rockford and someone wanted one here in Freeport. I thought, no way would I be able draw a crowd a big enough for a business to consider hosting. On a whim, with less then 24 hours notice, I put it out there: PRACITCE YOGA IN MY YARD and I’LL GIVE YOU A FREE BEER! Hey, it was for research! The outcome was surprising, PEOPLE SHOWED UP! …..and it took off!
A bunch of people posing in a yard draws attention, doesn't it? That's okay. It is an amazing feeling when a group of people get together with a common goal. Honestly, any insecurities with practicing yoga out in the open, with a large group of people, goes away quickly. This community style of yoga encourages mutual respect for one another and acceptance for everyone no matter where you are in your yoga practice. You are exactly where you need to be in the moment.

CONCERTED BEAUTY: Posted: May 3, 2021

Recently, I took a walk in the woods. I was in the same wooden area two weeks ago and could see the potential bloom, but nothing had happened yet. I was not disappointed! The bluebells are spread in a gentle, delicate blue hue all over. The robust, strong red of the trillium create contrast pops of color. The bluebells and trillium look like such different plant personalities. Similarly, they grow in the same areas, wild and chaotically. In this wild chaos, they grow and flower, gorgeously, next to each other. As I looked around, it looks like the bluebells and trillium grow wherever and however they please without over taking while respecting the other.

This week I ask you, how are you growing in your unique way to be a part of community?

THINGS ARE CHANGING: Posted April 26, 2021

How are you doing this week?
As I enter month FIFTEEN of mostly online yoga offerings, I have realized I got quite comfortable. The consistent, stable schedule is great for dependability and reliability. However, I noticed I as a yoga teacher am not trying different things in my teaching. Well, that is not totally true. The Slow Flow has added a few slower-than-usual flows in the practice. Yin Yoga has actually evolved into two types of styles a Yin Flow or a Lazy Flow (my favorite!). The subtle changes have had good response. Over the past few months, I realized a few of these changes will not grow in the current format. During the month of May, I am going to be paying attention to the practices and responses a bit more. Feedback is welcomed! I am a point of needing the make a change to grow the practice. I like slow and steady change; nothing will be added or taken away from the schedule without a lot of thought and intention. I ask you this week, what subtle changes are you in NEED of making?

SWEET BLOOM: Posted: April 19, 2021

There is a magnolia tree in my neighbor’s yard. Every day I try to guess which exact day it will bloom. I have been wrong for over a week. I think the buds are looking like they are going to just bust……and then they don’t. It looks like there is all this energy and life ready to spill forward. I keep thinking it will be a chaotic, messy explosion of magnolia flowers. I have seen this tree bloom for years and it is slow, steady and very much worth the wait. Impatient anticipation keeps me setting a timeline for something that will happen naturally; when it is ready. Especially now as we are shifting into opening and expanding more, it seems like there is a set date in which everything is just be open. It isn’t like or going to be this burst open. Everyone will move at their pace and timing. The forward momentum will happen naturally; slow, steady, and perfectly. Wherever you are at in this spring bloom, it is the right time. Enjoy the process and go at your own pace.

UPDATE: The magnolia tree bloomed a few days after I prepared this email. It is beautiful and worth the wait!

HOW I CALM MY MIND: Posted April 12, 2021

Currently, I am drawn to the art of collage. I very much enjoy the tactile practices of different media textures, movement of cutting, as well bringing different pieces together. This has slowly blended into my meditation practice. I really into adding mudras, a physical circuit into my practice. The touch and connection of left and right side as well as upper and lower bodies brings a physical grounding to the spiritual, mental, and emotional bodies. The Prithvi mudra is the touch of the fire (thumb) and earth (ring) fingertips; drawing down energy to anchor. It is a subtle touch which brings a calm peace. I have found with adding in a bit of touch stimulation, I am redirecting energy towards a tranquil mind.
I ask you, how are you directing and not projecting internal energy?

MISALIGNED: Posted March 29, 2021

How are you doing this week?
Have you felt your actions don’t align with what you are saying or doing? It may not always seems obvious or direct, but maybe you agree to do something you don’t really want to or you avoid doing something for yourself because it is easier. The last few weeks this has slowly and subtly happened. I find myself doing just a bit more of what I don’t need or want and less of what I do need or want. Eventually, I don’t feel aligned and find it harder to get back on track. I have tried to stop the internal lecture of my failures. Instead, I embrace my actions, commit to one self-care practice, and reset. I repeat until I feel my actions, words, and thoughts align. It is a practice I return to constantly. I learn something every time. A little share of why I feel or act misaligned is because I get bored. I realize the self-care practices and check-ins were a healthy space to explore where unchecked boredom caused me to wander too far off my alignment. I ask you, what are you doing to check within to stay aligned and on track? How do you allow grace to wander?

PROGRESS MAKES PROGRESS: Posted March 22nd

Today marks the 1 year for taking my business online! On this day last year, I set up a ZOOM, made space for my 2 dogs, Loretta and Mazzy, and invited anyone and everyone to join a yoga class from home. Eventually 4 different offerings became consistently available weekly. If you joined everything I offered in the last 365 days, you would have attended 220 online classes, 1 fundraiser (for Project 16:49), and 1 5-week Instagram program! Currently, only replays of the Slow Flow and Yin Yoga: Slow your Flow practices are available on YouTube.
Let me tell you starting out, even today, my online offerings are far from perfect. I will say I am proud for making available the best of what I have right now. The technology is shabby, physical space is bare minimum, and it is all unedited. I am sharing my heart fully. I know it is well received and appreciated because I AM STILL HERE OFFERING what I can and FEELING SUPPORTED.
I would have not be able to reach ANY of these accomplishments without the backing, participation, feedback and love from all of you. THANK YOU to each person who has practiced live or the replay, read my emails and posts, shared my information, bought a t-shirt, or just cheered me on. THANK YOU! MY HEART IS FULL. I want to share this as an example to you, progress of any type is progress. Sustaining change is slow and won’t look like much. After a year, I can’t show much change but I can show growth. I hope if there is something or anything you want to start or bring back into your life, you got this. Be gentle, because it won’t look like much at first, but the consistent dedication will lead to growth.
