About Yoga in My Yard

What is Yoga in My Yard?

Yoga in my yard is a free community yoga practice. The whole experience is free to all who attend. The practice was started by Laura Youngblut in Northwestern Illinois to invite her community to share their love of yoga together. Since then, others have volunteered their yards, barns, fields, etc. to practice yoga with the community. The goal is to take the basic yard and allow people to come together for a common goal - to let it all go. The host simply needs to provide a space for those in attendance to lay down a mat. Some hosts like to add an open mingling environment after the yoga, but that is totally up to them!

A bunch of people posing in a yard draws attention, doesn't it? That's okay. It is an amazing feeling when a group of people get together with a common goal. Honestly, any insecurities with practicing yoga out in the open, with a large group of people, goes away quickly. This community style of yoga encourages mutual respect for one another and acceptance for everyone no matter where you are in your yoga practice. You are exactly where you need to be in the moment.

Who is Laura?

My name is Laura. Yoga in my Yard is an idea created out of passion for healthy living and my community. I am a licensed massage therapist, registered nurse, and yoga teacher. I started this community based yoga as a way to bring people together without expectations. I want to get to know people for where they are in life. My goal with the community based yoga is to share what I love with others, with no expectations. This roaming-style of yoga practice is perfect for me because I am a wanderer. I have grown more when I take myself out of my comfort zone whether learning or physically going somewhere new.
